Bayern Munich’s New Sporting Director from Red Bul

L’équipe de football du Bayern Munich a annoncé mardi la nomination de Christoph Freund, un Autrichien de 46 ans, au poste de directeur sportif. Cette annonce fait suite au limogeage de la direction du club en mai dernier, à la fin d’une saison agitée. Freund occupe actuellement un poste similaire chez le champion autrichien, le Red Bull Salzbourg, depuis huit ans. Il prendra ses fonctions le 1er septembre, à la fin du marché des transferts estival. Dans un communiqué, le Bayern a exprimé sa confiance envers le nouveau directeur sportif, soulignant qu’il est la personne idéale pour renforcer l’équipe à l’avenir. Freund lui-même s’est dit ravi de pouvoir contribuer au succès continu du club et enthousiasmer les fans avec un football attrayant. Le président du directoire du Bayern, Jan-Christian Dreesen, a également exprimé sa conviction que Freund réussira dans sa nouvelle fonction.

Hasan Salihamidzic, along with former CEO Oliver Kahn, was ousted in May of last year and will be replaced by Christoph Freund. The duo of executives were let go after a highly disappointing season for Bayern, with the team being eliminated in the quarterfinals of both the German Cup and the Champions League. The club was able to save its season last minute by winning the league title. Salihamidzic and Kahn had taken a gamble by parting ways with coach Julian Nagelsmann in late March, in favor of appointing Thomas Tuchel for the crucial final weeks of the season. However, this decision proved unsuccessful and ultimately cost them their positions.
